INTRODUCTION TO RCEM AUDITS

Welcome to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine’s Clinical Audit website.

WHAT ARE THE RCEM CLINICAL AUDITS?

Since 2003 RCEM has been auditing against key standards to assist UK Emergency Departments (EDs) in improving their quality of care. Data are collected by participating EDs and submitted to RCEM for analysis. National reports and individual ED reports are then sent to all participating departments. The reports clearly identify that ED’s individual performance in relation to the clinical standards and show how they compare in relation to all other hospitals that participated in the audit. Comparing ED performance against national performance provides stimulus to improve and demonstrates to the public and Department of Health that the specialty of Emergency Medicine takes quality seriously and is striving to improve.

HOW DO I REGISTER MY ED TO TAKE PART?

All Emergency Departments in the UK are eligible to register to take part. Emergency Departments should register their intention to participate each year by downloading the registration form at http://www.rcem.ac.uk/audits
